PU VC’s call to love animals

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has urged the human beings to love animals as man is incomplete without loving animals.
He said this while addressing brown bears’ naming ceremony at the Lahore Zoo on Thursday. Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi, Director PU Undergraduate Studies Prof Dr Amir Ejaz, Director Lahore Zoo Shafqat Ali, faculty members, and students were also present. Two 1-year-old brown female bears’ babies were named as Sang means “the enlightened one” and Sachi means “the blessed child”.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said man was the vicegerent of Allah and it was his responsibility to protect every species in the world. He said he liked to see animal planet. He said Allah had blessed Pakistan with unique and rare types of birds and animals along with abundance of natural resources. Director Lahore Zoo Shafqat Ali said that brown bears were facing extinction and we must take care of them. He said that naming animals showed our love with those animals. Later, a cake-cutting ceremony was organised and Director Lahore Zoo presented a souvenir of Markhor, Pakistan’s national animal, to Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi.
