The under construction fishermen colonies at Keenjhar, Manchhar and Badin costing Rs482 million will be completed soon.
Each colony has 100 housing units, comprising two-rooms, corridor and a courtyard, community centre, mosque, school and a dispensary.
Sindh Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Jam Khan Shoro said this in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Monday.
The chief minister directed the minister to complete the colony at Manchhar by the end of May so that it could be inaugurated. “I want the fishermen settled there as soon as possible.”
Shoro informed the meeting that the colony at Manchhar was almost complete with 78 housing units already constructed, adding the colony at Keenjhar was ready but a portion of its civil work remained to be completed. “This colony has the distinction to have its own RO plant.”
On this, Qaim told the minister to fix the date to inaugurate the Keenjhar colony so that allotment letters to the fishermen were handed over as soon as possible.
On the request of the minister, Qaim directed the finance department to release the required funds to the livestock department so that the colony could be completed by the end of next month.
It may be noted that the fishermen colony at Keenjhar is located on the main road leading to Hyderabad.
Talking about the fishermen colony of Zero-point Badin, the minister assured, “It would be completed by the year-end.“
On a query by the chief minister about the progress of the cattle colonies being established at Umerkot, Naukot and Khairpur, Shoro said these colonies, excluding the Khairpur one would be completed by the end of this financial year, adding the livestock department has launched these schemes for Rs1,441 million. “The farmers would be given shades with an attendant room and a store room on a 30 year extendable lease on easy installments.” he said.
The CM was briefed that current financial year allocation for livestock sector was Rs 1549.045 million and for fisheries about Rs 521.641 million.
Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Waseem Ahmed, Secretary Fisheries & Livestock Noor Mohammad Leghari and other concerned senior officers attended the meeting.
