Nepra and Ogra always announce tariff adjustments in paisas. One cannot understand the logic of fixing the rates in decimals when the government has discarded the use of coins a long time ago and paisas 1 to 50 are no longer accepted as legal tender. This practice allows OMCs and filling pumps to mint money from consumers by displaying prices in round numbers for payments, causing financial loss to people. The federal government and the regulatory bodies should take notice of this anomaly. The SBP should also intervene to save consumers from paying extra money. Dr Alfred Charles Karachi
