Death warrants of five Gujranwala convicts issued

GUJRANWALA: Death warrants for five convicts were issued by different courts here on Monday. Anti-Terrorism Court No-1 Judge Ch Imtiaz Ahmad issued death warrants for Muhammad Inayat for April 21. The prisoner will be hanged in the Central Jail. He had killed his sister Rehman Bibi and her husband Mirza Khan for contracting love marriage in Sodhra police limits on November 5, 2002. Five other people, including Saifullah, Sufian, Bashir and Adnan, were also killed during the incident. The ATC had awarded him death sentence on seven counts on May 30, 2005. Appeals of the convict have been rejected by the Lahore High Court, the Supreme Court and the president.
The same judge also issued death warrants for two convicts - Luqman and Saleem - for April 21. The convicts will be hanged in the Sialkot Jail. They had gang-raped a minor girl in Qila Kalarwala police limits, Sialkot district, on May 6, 1999. They were awarded death sentence by a court on September 15, 1999. Their appeals have been rejected by the Lahore High Court, the Supreme Court and the president.
Meanwhile, Sessions Judge Amir Mehmood Khan issued death warrants for two convicts for April 16. The convict, Ijaz, had gunned down Zulfiqar Ali on May 18, 1998, while the other convict, Abdul Jabbar, had stabbed Yasin to death on May 27, 2001 in Baghbanpura police limits. Their appeals have also been rejected by the Lahore High Court, the Supreme Court and the president.
