LANDIKOTAL: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader and former parliamentarian Haroonur Rasheed has asked the government to announce date for local government elections in the tribal region.
Addressing a press conference at the Landikotal Press Club on Sunday, he said that Fata was the lone territory on earth without any proper legal system. “Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) has deprived about eight million tribal people of their basic rights,” he said.
Haroon remarked that Article 247 of the Constitution should be extended and implemented in the tribal areas. The JI leader said Fata was one of the most important parts of Pakistan where the British rulers had imposed draconian FCR to press tribesmen in the past. JI’s deputy secretary general for JI in Fata Dr Samiullah Jan, deputy chief Zarnoor Afridi and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
