Customs Court, Rawalpindi Judge Chaudhry Mumtaz Hussain on Saturday ordered customs authorities to present challan of supermodel, Ayyan Ali in money laundering case, on April 24, 2015.
Ayyan Ali was presented before the Customs Judge Chaudhary Mumtaz Hussain amid tight security. During the hearing, customs authorities adopted the stance that the challan is yet not complete and lacks some details requesting the court to provide them further time for completing it.
On the other` hand Ayyan’s lawyer while opposing the remarks said that the officials should be directed to submit the challan immediately so that the trial can be initiated. The court after hearing the arguments of both sides adjourned the hearing till April 24 and ordered the customs authorities to present the challan in the next hearing while accomplishing all the necessary actions of the challan.
The supermodel Ayyan Ali also requested that she should be allowed to provide evidence in her defence, which the court agreed. All the statements and claims made by Ayyan Ali in the hearing, which is currently underway were ordered by the court to be recorded.
Ayyan Ali was arrested by Customs officials on March 14 from Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad after recovering $508,000 from her possession. She was arrested for violation of Section 2(s)
of the Customs Act 1969 which is a ‘predicate offence’ under the Anti-Money Laundering
Act (AMLA) 2010. The offe-
nce is non-bail able and non-cognisable.
