DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is considering rescheduling the Zimbabwe series as they want to hold Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) during that period.
Zimbabwe were expected to arrive in January 2019 to play a two-match Test series and three one-day internationals. However, BCB is now considering hosting the series in October 2018.BCB want to change the schedule in order to provide adequate security for BPL, which was initially slated to be held in October 2018. With the national elections set to be held then, and inadequate security in place, they are planning to host it in January 2019 instead.
BCB isn’t convinced whether they can have the required security for the tournament, which features several international stars. Various agencies have already informed them about their unavailability due to the election duties.
It is understood that franchises were also not ready to play the tournament in October as some of them will be busy with the election.“We are trying to host Zimbabwe in October,” said BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury. “Both the boards agreed in principle about the rescheduling as we have to hold the BPL in January,” he said.
“We are working out on some details regarding the series against Zimbabwe,” he added. Zimbabwe are expected to be in South Africa till mid-October and BCB is trying to host them soon after they finish their assignment there.
