PMDC told to enforce code of conduct

Islamabad: The doctors should swear an oath to comply with the code of conduct at the time of getting degrees or registering themselves with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), and display that oath along with registration certificates at workplace.

This was suggested by Minister for National Health Services and Regulation Mohammad Yousaf Shaikh during a visit to the main PMDC offices here. PMDC acting president and Justice (r) Shakirullah Jan assured the minister that he would take the suggestion to the council for consideration.

He briefed the minister about the current adhoc council and PMDC’s functions and activities, and said the organisation was making code of ethics part of the medical and dental curriculum. The PMDC acting president said the adhoc council had taken several steps to revamp medical and dental curriculum.

He promised every possible facilitation for the strengthening of the PMDC regional offices and improving the functioning of PMDC to produce quality doctors and dentists. The minister ordered strict enforcement of the code of conduct for doctors and dentists in the country.
