PESHAWAR: At least 10 students of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) were awarded scholarships under the ‘Pakistan-Scottish Scholarship Schemes.
The cheque distribution ceremony was held at the City Campus of the university on Tuesday. Vice-chancellor SBBWU Prof Dr Razia Sultana was the chief guest on the occasion. She gave away cheques to the selected students.
The scholarships cover tuition fee for the master’s courses and hostel expenses, subsistence to the award-holder and travel to and from home to the university, said a university official. The scholarships were awarded to students related to the subject areas of sustainable energy, food security, agriculture and education, she added.
Dr Razia Sultana said that the scholarships were a token of encouragement for the deserving and talented students. She said that education and empowerment of women could play an effective role in development of the society. “Quality education can better empower women. This is the reason that we have made academics and research as our top priority,” she said.
