Women team named for World Junior Golf

LAHORE: The Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) is moving at a fast pace and is all geared up to provide the talented golfers of the country an opportunity to gain experience at the international level and excel in overseas golf arenas.

Right now a two-member ladies team has been announced to represent Pakistan in the World Junior Golf Championship to be held at Damai Indah Golf Course from June to 8. The two-member squad comprises Parkha Ijaz of Defence Raya Golf Club and Humna Amjad of Kamra Golf Club.

These two skilled ones are in their teens and will be travelling to Jakarta (Indonesia). The championship is open to girls below the age of 17 years. Mrs Zeenat Ayesha, Lady Member of the Executive Committee of PGF will accompany the team as manager.

Speaking of her preparations for this championship, Parkha Ijaz said that she is practicing under the supervision of her coach M. Imran at the Defence Raya Golf Course in Lahore and besides attaining expertise in shot-making, she is mixing this up with fitness related exercises at the Gym. She stated that she and Humna are pleased about the fact that they will be reaching Jakarta a few days ahead of the championship and hence will have a chance to play at least two practice rounds and get a feel of the golf course and the windy conditions.

By playing two practice rounds they will be in a position to plan their strategy ahead of the main championship.While the ladies get ready for the Indonesia outing, a three-member boys team has already left for China to take part in the Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Golf Championship 2018. This championship starts on June 1 and will continue till June 3 in Haiku.

The Pakistani contingent comprises Junaid Irfan, Hamza Shikoh and Omar Khalid. Commodore Ghazanfar Abbas of Karachi Golf Club is the team manager. Junaid and Hamza will compete in the 15-17 age group and Omar will compete for honours in the 11-14 age bracket.
