THE Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore has initiated an inquiry against the incumbent Lesco XEN (Deputy Manager Planning) for allegedly accumulating wealth beyond his known source of income, The News has learnt.
On the complaint of Grid System Operation (GSO), a union of Lesco, the assets inquiry No 64/2015 has been initiated against Deputy Manager Planning Lesco named Muhammad Latif Mughal.
According to the complaint and the FIA sources, Latif allegedly owns a double-story bungalow in Tajpura Housing Scheme, worth millions of rupees besides he also allegedly owns a commercial plaza in Salli Town Lahore. They said Latif had more than three official cars/vehicles in his use against the rules.
It has also been written in the complaint that children of Latif are also studying in expensive schools of the provincial metropolis. Besides, the complaint also contained that the Lesco official had prized movable and immovable properties in his name and in the name of his family members.
Sub-Inspector Ghulam Murtaza Bajwa has been appointed as the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case.
When contacted on Monday, incharge of the AEU Lahore, Additional Director Syed Fareed Ali confirmed that an assets inquiry had been initiated against Lesco official Latif Mughal. He said that after adopting a due process, the FIA investigators would summon him for his statement. The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and FIA (Inquiry and Investigation) Rules 2002 empower the FIA to probe illegal accumulation of wealth of federal government employees.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the second assets probe initiated by Assets Enquiry Unit (AEU) of the FIA Lahore since its revival earlier this month. The first probe of its kind was initiated against former purchase inspector of Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation Ltd (Passco), and his brother, a former clerk of district council Hafizabad, in the second week of the corresponding month.
Talking to The News, Latif Mughal claimed that he had no information from the FIA about any inquiry against him. However, he refused to talk further.
