FC donates medicines for fighting leishmaniasis
PESHAWAR: The Mohmand Agency received a much-needed batch of 400 Glucantime Vials (injections) for the treatment of Leishmaniasis infected patients. According to a press release, the medicine was arranged by FC North HQ, when two weeks back Mohmand Agency Political Agent sought help from Inspector General FC, North, in arranging injections required for the 1700 under treatment patients, 1400 of whom are children.
Earlier in April upon request of the political administration, Fata Secretariat had issued 250 injections and another 100 injections were arranged from the government of KP as a loan by the political administration but the said stock had been utilised by May 15.
By then each patient had been administered two to three doses due to which the toxicity and further spread of skin sores (lesions) was arrested but normally an infected patient requires three to eight doses depending on the type and extent of infection and age of the patient.
Glucantime, which is the prescribed drug for treatment of leishmaniasis is provided by only World Health Organisation and is not readily available in the open market.
