SHC seeks report on implementation of differently abled persons law
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the provincial social welfare department to inform the court about the efforts being made for the appointments of differently abled persons in government and private establishments under the relevant law.
The high court was hearing the petition of Mohammad Amin and others seeking implementation of the Sindh Differently Abled Persons (Employment, Rehabilitation and Welfare) Act. The Sindh social welfare deputy director submitted a report mentioning that 27 medical assessment boards have been set up for the registration of differently abled persons in the province and they have registered 35,522 people.
The SHC said that no further progress has been shown that proves if the differently abled persons have been provided with jobs, adding that a council for the rehabilitation of disabled persons was set up, but no funds have been issued to implement the law. The high court then directed the social welfare department to inform the court about its efforts for the appointments of differently abled persons in government and private establishments.
