Mepco plans to set up unmanned grid station

MULTAN: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has planned setting up six new grid stations in south Punjab, including one advanced and unmanned grid station in Multan, disclosed the Mepco officials here on Wednesday.

At least Rs1.4 billion cost has been estimated on the new grid stations which will remove the complaints on tripping and low voltage, they said. The country’s second fully automatic and unmanned grid station would be established in Multan. Talking to The News here on Tuesday, Mepco project director engineer Nawaz Nadeem said that Rs250 million would be spent on the establishment of unmanned grid station of 132KV in Multan Suraj Miani. Two transformers of 20/26KV would be installed at unmanned grid station and 90 percent development work has been completed, he said.

The rest of the five grid stations would be established in Chishtian area of Bukhshan Khan (66KV) while Rs150 million would be spent on Kitchiwala grid station of 132KV power. At least Rs250 million is being spent on Kasowal grid station and these projects would be completed in coming June. Rupees 250 million is being spent on 132KV grid station in Donga Bonga where two transformers of 20/26 MV would be installed and this project is expected to complete in next September.

At least Rs250 million is being spent on the establishment of 132KV grid station in Bahawalnagar while the same amount is being spent on 132KV grid station in Khanpur Baga Sher.

Mepco Project Director Nawaz Nadeem said that all those projects would be completed in next September. Moreover, seven grid stations of 66KV are being upgraded to 132KV and Rs1.30 billion will be spent on their upgradation. Rupees 60 million is being spent on 66KV Jampur grid station to increase its performance to 132KV while Rs220.5 million is being spent on Karor Lal Esan on 66-KV grid station up gradation to 132-KV power in Layyah district.

He said Rs220 million was being spent on the upgradation of Kot Sultan grid to 132KV grid while Rupees 250 million was being spent on the upgradation of Maroot grid station. The upgradation of grid stations is likely to complete in the current month, he added.
