This refers to the news report ‘Next government to revive [Karachi Circular Railway] KCR project, says CM’ (May 23). There cannot be a more hilarious announcement than this belated promise, especially when the elections are on the cards. The PPP government has been in power for the last 10 years, but it never took constructive steps to revive the project. The metropolis contributes a great deal towards the country’s GDP, but it has been denied a decent public transport system. At one time, Japan had agreed to provide technical and financial assistance for the revival of the KCR, but the offer was frittered away.
In addition, no tangible development work has taken place in Sindh during the past few years. The province has problems, including a poor level of infrastructure, rising illiteracy and unemployment, and rampant poverty. Karachi is facing acute water scarcity while heaps of garbage are seen scattered all over the city. The incompetence and apathy of the Sindh government is condemnable.
