Islamabad: To commemorate International Day while also celebrating the successful completion of the academic session 2017-2018, Sheikh Zayed International Academy (SZIA), together with students of all grade levels, observed organised a colourful ceremony here the other day with the Ambassador of UAE Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Selem Alzaabi as the chief guest.

Several ambassadors, dignitaries, parents, guests and a cosmopolitan crowd from 19 countries attended the event, which started with the national anthems of both UAE and Pakistan being played at the outset.

The principal of SZIA Wafaa Abdul Ghaffar termed academic excellence and cultural vibrancy as the twin features of SZIA. “The students of SZIA have brought laurels in educational attainment, both in internal and external evaluations, and have emerged as leaders by virtue of their achievements among other institutions of Islamabad,” she remarked.

Wafaa also acknowledged the efforts of the students, teachers and staff in successful conclusion of the academic session, and announced awards for student, teacher and administrator of the year.

Students took part in vibrant stage presentations upholding various cultures of the world. They presented folklore songs, Zumba and musical performances; they also sang a version of “We are the world,” holding flags of various countries to symbolize global peace. Later, the guests visited the stalls set up by embassies of countries represented by the student body and staff. This was followed by a buffet of international cuisine.
