Two boys killed as truck overturns on van

LAHORE: Two boys were killed and seven other people injured when a truck overturned on a van on Bedian Road near Ludher Stop on Sunday.

The deceased identified as Sakhi Khan and Ghami Khan were between the ages of seven and eight years. According to police, at least nine people were passing through Bedian Road in a van after swimming in BRB Canal when a truck overturned on it, as a result, all of them suffered injuries. Rescuers removed them to hospital where Sakhi Khan and Ghami Khan were pronounced dead. Police have removed the bodies to morgue.

Accused of defrauding former judge not arrested: Model Town police have failed so far to arrest the person who allegedly deprived a former judge of Rs 10.10 million. Former Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Muhammad Aslam Shami and the accused, Munir Ahmad Daha of Vehari, had a joint business of property. Munir gave a cheque for Rs 10.10 million to the former judge that was bounced by the bank. Police registered a case against Munir on May 18, 2018.

55 arrested for kite flying, wheelie: Police registered 35 cases and arrested 55 persons on charges of selling and flying kites as well as for doing wheelie in the city on Sunday. Police arrested 10 persons on charges of selling and flying kites and seized over 20 kites and nine kite string spools from the possession of the accused.

Meanwhile, police arrested 45 youths from various parts of the city on charges of doing wheelie. Farewell for promoted police officer: A farewell meeting was held at the Central Police Office in connection with the promotion of Punjab Highway Patrol Additional IG Amjid Javid Saleemi to the grade 22 and his appointment as the National Highways and Motorways IG.

Addressing the ceremony, Amjid Javid Saleemi said the subordinates should have direct access to their officers. He appreciated the performance of PHP personnel. DIG Ghulam Mehmood Dogar informed that 1,263 constables were being recruited, including 110 lady constables. He said 275 personnel were given promotion from the rank of constable to head constable and the promotion of 93 ASIs was under process.

He said millions of saplings were planted under the Green Highways drive. As many as 16 million motorcycles were impounded. A comprehensive programme was initiated to improve the physical fitness of the personnel.by conducting Field Craft Course at four different stations. Ten new posts were constructed while seven were made operational and repairing work at 240 posts was completed. Construction work on 17 Riverine police posts was completed. Around 35,849 cases were registered against accused and 39,617 accused were arrested. As many as 2,864 proclaimed offenders and 374 court absconders were arrested.

Deceased youth's relatives stage protest demo: The family members of a youth, who was killed in crossfire between two groups in the Ghaziabad area on Sunday early morning, staged a protest demonstration on Canal Road at Nawan Pull, against police for not arresting the culprits.

Victim Waqas Ali’s mother condemned the Ghaziabad police for not arresting the persons involved in the murder of her son. She alleged that the police were reluctant to arrest the main accused, Nomi, and his accomplices. The relatives of the deceased staged a massive protest demonstration and blocked the road for all kind of traffic by burning tyres. The victim’s mother appealed to the chief minister to look into the matter and direct police to take prompt action against the culprits.
