ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) website showed July 31 as the date of 2018 general elections, which was immediately removed, following speculations about the date of nation-wide electoral exercise.

ECP Spokesperson Altaf Khan came up to clarify that no date had yet been finalised and the date being referred to, was hence not correct. “Elections date is not something to hide; whenever an announcement will be made in this connection, the entire nation will know,” he said.

On account of completion of the term of assemblies, as per law, the elections are to be held within 60 days, whereas otherwise, this exercise has to be held within 90 days.

The ECP proposes possible date(s) to the president, who finally decides on which the elections are to be conducted.
