This refers to the editorial ‘Running out of water’ (May 17). Since the Ayub era, no big dams – barring Mangla and Tarbela dams – have been built. Pakistan does not have infinite resources to squander. Every large development project in this country relies on foreign loans. It is important that we carefully prioritise development projects according to our needs and in terms of what gives the highest return.
Development projects like metro bus, metro train, motorways are airports cannot be a substitute for water reservoirs. The media should also share the blame for not being vocal on the government’s ill-conceived planning and ignoring construction of big and small dams.
