PESHAWAR: Opposing any move to send troops to Yemen, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief Aftab Sherpao on Friday asked the government to raise the issue in parliament and play the role of an effective mediator to defuse the crisis.
Talking to reporters here, he said though Saudi Arabia was a time-tested friend of Pakistan, the government should play the role of a mediator. “Our security forces are already overburdened and the decision to send our troops abroad will create more problems,” the former interior minister added.
The QWP chairman expressed concern over continued war in Iraq, Libya and Syria and asked the Arab League to play an effective role to solve the issues. Expressing his reservations over the delay in the rehabilitation of IDPs, he asked the government to take drastic steps to facilitate the displaced people.
“The government is duty-bound to mitigate the sufferings of the dislocated families, ensure their return with honour and provision of all basic facilities as they suffered a lot due to the war on terror and rendered sacrifices for restoration of peace in the country,” Sherpao said.
He expressed concern over the lawlessness in Karachi and asked the government to restore peace in the metropolitan city at all costs. “If the security forces can be used against terrorists in different tribal regions, they can also be used against the anti-state elements elsewhere in the country,” he added. He said that it was time to eliminate extortionists, target killers and kidnappers to establish the writ of the government.
