MULTAN: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi Tuesday said a biased narrative was victimising and defaming the politicians and political parties, particularly in the Punjab, but its repercussions would bring about disastrous results.

Addressing a press conference at the press club here, he alleged that the all sorts of tactics were used to prevent Nawaz Sharif from doing government in the last five years. “If registration of high treason case is due against Nawaz Sharif, then first it should be registered against Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf. I am a great fan of Pakistan Army and appeals them to play their role in preventing character assassination campaign of the politicians," he said.

To a query, he said nobody can stop holding of next general elections and they would be held on time. He demanded constituting a national commission to probe the facts and condemn targeting Nawaz Sharif on the pretext of different baseless allegations.

Hashmi criticised those creating hype on Nawaz Sharif's interview, saying he (Nawaz) repeated the words of Musharraf.

The senior PML-N leader said only politicians had created Pakistan and they were the prime target in current situation. When you started penalising and defaming politicians, how will you survive in the world, he questioned. He said Nawaz Sharif had been targeted since he had taken over the country as an elected prime minister. He said the character assassination of politicians was not a good omen for the country. A gulf is created between the politicians and the nation under a biased narrative.

Lashing out at PTI chief Imran Khan, Hashmi said his strings were in the hands of others. "He has no ideology except to become a prime minister. Imran Khan has been carrying the agenda of others rather the masses. Soon he will realise that someone was misusing him badly," he added. "The Supreme Court of Pakistan convicted and hanged only politicians.
