IIU launches diploma on mental health, law & human rights

Islamabad: International Islamic University (IIU) launched ‘International Diploma on Mental Health, Law and Human Rights.’ The diploma is jointly initiated by Departments of psychology and Shariah and Law of the university with the technical support of World Health Organisation (WHO).

The diploma is aimed at developing indigenous practices and interventions to lead the mental health services in Pakistan and train professional and students in best practices in the context of law of state norms of human rights.

The launching ceremony in this regard was organised here at Faisal Masjid Campus which was joined Deputy Minister for Education of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Hamd Bin Nasir, Ambassador of Oman Sheikh Muhamamd Al-Marhoon, IIU President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Diplomats from Islamic countries, academicians of IIU, representative of WHO, Director, Dr. Zafar Mirza and organisers Dr. Tahir Khalily (Director Academics and clinical psychologist) and Dr. Aziz ur Rehman (faculty member and legal advisor IIU).

Interdisciplinary ventures and practical projects in all the educational fields are vital for academic and societal excellence, said Sheikh Hamd, the chief guest. He urged for the practical implementation of the degrees and suggested that medical diplomas be offered across the Muslim world to broaden the exposure of students. KSA education and psychology expert furthered that mental health was important as the physical health.
