PTI, Sunni Tehreek hold demos against Nawaz over statement

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sunni Tehreek Monday held protest demonstrations in Lahore, Gujranwala and Haroonabad against Nawaz Sharif over his statement about Mumbai attacks in an interview with an English-language daily recently.

Also, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has announced taking out rallies against Nawaz Sharif’s “anti-state statement” across country on Tuesday (today). PTI’s student wing Insaf Students Federation (ISF) Lahore activists held a protest demonstration at Liberty Chowk in Gulberg area of Lahore under the leadership of ISF Punjab President Gulraiz Iqbal and Lahore chapter president Mohsin Chaudhry.

The protesters demanded the arrest of Nawaz Sharif and strict action against him over his “anti-state statement”. They were holding placards inscribed with slogans against the Pakistan Muslim League-N supremo.

Those attending the demonstration included: ISF senior vice president Rana Azhar Nawaz, General Secretary Punjab Saad Jamil, Vice President Lahore Affan Maqsood, General Secretary Lahore Amees Ershad, Secretary Information Khurram Murad and a large number of students of colleges and universities of Lahore.

In Gujranwala, the PTI activists and supporters held a demonstration against Nawaz Sharif at Sialkot Road. Also, Sunni Tehreek organised a rally from Sheranwala Gate to Sialkoti Gate in Gujranwala. PTI Youth Wing also held a rally, led by City President Hafiz Tanvir Ansari. The protesters demanded registration a case against Nawaz Sharif under Article 6 and awarding him capital punishment under treason charges. Another demonstration was held at Quaid-e-Azam Road in Haroonabad against Nawaz Sharif and in favour of Pakistan Army.

The PAT and Minhajul Quran activists will hold a protest demonstration outside Lahore Press Club today (Tuesday). The demonstration will be addressed by PAT leaders including Hafiz Ghulam Fareed, Ishtiaq Hanif Mughal, Haji Farrukh Abdul Hannan Tahir, Umar Awan and others.
