LAHORE: Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Mehmood-ul-Rasheed has submitted a resolution, demanding trial of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif under Article 6 for allegedly targeting the country's sovereignty.
In the resolution submitted in the assembly secretariat, the opposition leader came down hard on the former premier for his recent interview in which he had talked about the Mumbai attacks and the involvement of non state actors who crossed border from Pakistan.
Rasheed alleged that Nawaz was acting as a tool in the hands anti-Pakistan forces and world powers trying to create instability in the country.
He said all the state institutions, including Pakistan Army and judiciary, were respectable and any conspiracy to malign them was totally unacceptable. The opposition, led by Rasheed, also protested outside Punjab Assembly and chanted slogans against Nawaz, as some of the members also called for his 'execution' over the alleged treason.
Meanwhile, Abdul Aleem Khan, the head of PTI Central Punjab region, while addressing a ceremony in the Cantt area, demanded strict action against the former prime minister. He said Nawaz, who had already declared himself as Mujibur Rahman had further been exposed and it was obvious that there had been no difference between him and Altaf Hussain.
Moreover, he said Nawaz had shown through his narrative that he had no concern with the national interest or sovereignty and, therefore, it’s the time to handle him strictly.
According to the CTD spokesman, the two were attempting to enter Punjab from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
