Dr Amjad resumes charge as PMDC registrar

Within days of his removal, Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood has resumed the charge of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council registrar.
The development comes at the intervention of the court of law.
Last week, the PMDC repatriated Dr Raja Amjad, a Capital Administration and Development Division official, though the Islamabad High Court asked him to stay put until a commission formed by it files report on issues between the PMDC and the Ministry of Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.
The PMDC claimed, “As his promotion is due, Dr Raja Amjad, a CADD official working with it on deputation, put up a request to his top bosses to relieve him from the PMDC.”
Dr Raja Amjad is tasked with furnishing the report of the commission to the court being its focal person.
Now as the court has stepped in and voiced annoyance at Dr Raja Amjad’s repatriation despite orders against it, the PMDC withdrew the relevant notification.
“The Competent Authority (PMDC) in compliance of the order issued by the Honourable Islamabad High Court Islamabad in writ petition bearing No4436/2014, titled PMDC vs. Federation of Pakistan withdrew the March 19, 2015 notification regarding Dr Raja Amjad’s repatriation.
“Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood shall continue as the PMDC registrar till the completion of the proceedings of the commission appointed by the honourable judge, Athar Minallah, and the disposal of the present writ petition,” read a notification issued by PMDC administrative officer Muhammad Ismail on March 26.
Dr Raja Amjad insisted the order of his repatriation was illegal in light of the court orders. He said he would continue working at the PMDC registrar until the court asked him to report back to the CADD.
