CJP summons record of May 12 tragedy
KARACHI: The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, has summoned the record of May 12 mayhem case from the Sindh High Court so an appropriate order could be passed for revisiting it, which was hurriedly disposed of by the reconstituted bench that took oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order imposed by then President Pervez Musharaf in November 2007.
During the hearing of the human rights cases at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry, the Chief Justice inquired from the senior counsel Faisal Siddiqui about the status of the proceedings of May 12 case. Faisal Siddiqui submitted that a larger bench of the Sindh High Court was hearing the May 12 mayhem proceedings but it could not be concluded due to the imposition of the Provisional Constitutional Order in November 2007 and later the matter was disposed of by another bench.
He said the case was pending since then for revisiting the court orders. The court directed the office to summon the record from the Sindh High Court so the May 12 mayhem proceedings may be decided at the earliest. The court also offered fateha for the May 12 victims.
