Project for protection of human rights launched
Islamabad : Federal Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar on Wednesday stressed for collaborative efforts to ensure protection of human rights at every level.
He was speaking at the orientation session of the project titled ‘Equal Rights for All (ERFA)” organised by Ministry of Human Rights in collaboration with Society of Sustainable Development (SSD). Pilot phase of the project is implemented in selected Union Councils of Islamabad including Khanna Dak, Sector G 7/1, Sector G 7/2, Sector G 8/1, Sector G 8/2, and Jhangi Syedan.
Through this project, the ministry would create awareness and sensitise general public on human rights specifically women, children, minorities and vulnerable population. The main objective is to ensure that all vulnerable and excluded groups of the society enjoy their rights.
Federal Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar said that protection of fundamental human rights is vital for sustainable development, peace and prosperity. He called for collaborative efforts by government, civil society, legislature and judiciary, academia and media to achieve the target of peaceful and just society. He said that government of Pakistan is fully cognizant to safeguard the rights of its people and has taken significant steps for social, political, economic and legal empowerment of women, children, minorities and vulnerable people.
On this occasion, Superintendent Police for Special Branch Arsala Salim briefed the participants about the steps taken by the ICT police for ensuring human rights for vulnerable sections of the society.
CEO SSD Aftab Ahmed who discussed the role of civil society for supporting the government and general public in implementing rights ensured by the constitution and international commitments.
The event also featured a panel discussion where views and suggestion were shared about the role of different stakeholders in sensitization and awareness raising on rights. The event ended with concluding remarks of Director General Human Rights for Ministry of Human Rights.
