Full bench on signal-free corridor case

THE Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday constituted a full bench to hear petitions challenging a project of ‘signal free corridor’ from Qartaba Chowk to Liberty Market, Gulberg.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali on last hearing had requested the Chief Justice to form a larger bench as the matter involved important legal points. Justice Shah had already stayed the project for several violations of rules and laws on part of the Lahore Development Authority.
The CJ constituted the full bench comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali and Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh. The bench would resume hearing on March 26 (today).
LG polls: The Lahore High Court Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Wednesday sought reply from the federal government and the Punjab government in a petition seeking delay in local government election in the Cantonment areas until new delimitation.
A lawyer-petitioner had filed a petition submitting that the cantonment board had not held new delimitation for the upcoming LG polls. The petitioner said the holding the polls without new delimitation was a violation of the Constitution.
He prayed the court to stay the election process till fresh process of delimitation by the cantonment board.
After hearing initial arguments, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC heard the arguments and issued notices to the law officers for March 26.
Lakhvi: Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi has moved another petition to the Lahore High Court seeking implementation of the order of Islamabad High Court regarding his detention.
Lakhvi through his counsel has submitted that the detention order issued by Okara DCO was contempt of the verdict issued by Islamabad High Court. He said Home Department was not complying with the order of IHC, according to which, the authorities concerned were directed to release him.
He said but the DCO Okara issued fresh notice of his detention on March 14. He said he was also granted bail in the case. Lakhvi has prayed the court to direct the Punjab Home Department to decide his detention matter in the light of the IHC order.
Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa would take up the petition on Thursday (today). The judge dismissed a similar petition of Lakhvi on last Friday directing him to approach DCO Okara.
