KARACHI: The Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will give reception in honour of the national Commonwealth Games contingent on May 10 at the Prime Minister Secretariat in Islamabad.
According to sources, the PM will also give away cash awards to the medal winners in the quadrennial event. Pakistan’s premier wrestler Mohammad Inam (86kg) claimed gold while wrestlers Mohammad Bilal (57kg) and Tayyab Reza (125kg) captured bronze. The weightlifters Nooh Dastagir Butt (+105kg) and Talha Talib (62kg) also claimed bronze medals but the interesting move is that the whole contingent has been invited which will also enable the participants to share their problems with the prime minister.
All the players and officials, who were part of the Australian event, have been asked to come to the Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on May 9 and on the next day they will proceed to the PM Secretariat.
Sources said that as Pakistan pulled off some medals in individual sports in Australia the federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Pirzada will request the PM to back such disciplines so that they could further improve. Inam will receive a decent purse of Rs5million for winning gold. Inam had also received the same purse when he had clinched gold in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. The bronze medalists will get richer by Rs1 million each as per policy.
