Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has demanded an immediate change of Sindh governor to control crime and restore peace in Karachi.
He was addressing the party leaders at Mansoora on Tuesday. Those present at the meeting included JI deputy chiefs Rashid Naseem, Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, Mian Muhammad Aslam, secretary general Liaqat Baloch, JI KP chief Prof Muhammad Ibrahim, Punjab JI chief Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar, Information Secretary Amirul Azeem and others.
Sirajul Haq said Karachi had been afire for the last several decades and thousands of people had fallen prey to target killings and extortion. He said the confessional statements of the criminals had made it clear that an ethnic organisation of Karachi was involved in bloodshed and killing of government and security officers and citizens. It had come to light that offenders had been taking refuge in the Sindh Governor’s House and were afforded protection there. It was essential to change the governor of Sindh, he said and added the PTI had also made the same demand.
Sirajul Haq said some foreign powers were interfering in Karachi affairs and trying that the criminals arrested during the operation should be dealt with leniently. He said if the government and armed forces were serious and wanted to eliminate terrorism, they should do even handed justice and deal with the criminals in strict terms.
The JI chief said the government-PTI agreement on setting up a judicial commission was a welcome step but the situation demanded that the government should announce the commission forthwith. He hoped after the formation of judicial commission, the PTI would return to assemblies.
Sirajul Haq said all political parties should give up mutual tug of war and join hands to resolve the problems.
