KMC hostel girls register complaint against ex-warden
PESHAWAR: The students living in girls’ hostel of Khyber Medical College (KMC) have approached the Board of Governors (BoG) and other concerned authorities to request them not to send the previous warden to their hostel.
The students feared that she would put their lives at risk and make them feel insecure.
The sources told The News that the girl students were planning to inform Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar about their ordeal during his proposed visit to Peshawar next month.
The sources claimed that some powerful elements have started efforts to harass the students by warning them not to open their mouths before the chief justice or media.
Sources in the Board of Governors told The News that the authorities wanted to hush up the issue after the girl students lodged complaint against the previous hostel warden. The students feared that being influential due to backing by powerful elements, she was trying to cancel her transfer orders and come back to the lone female hostel.
The News has obtained a copy of the application, which the female students had written to chairman BoG, secretary health and dean KMC to seek their assistance in safeguarding their rights.
“The exploitation of hostel resources for personal gains/benefits by the previous warden tremendously tarnished the image of this sole boarding facility for the girls’ students of KMC. We have come to know through sources that the previous warden is striving to adjust herself again at the same position using different options. If the administration of the hostel and institution allows this, the rights, security and future of the resident girl students will be at risk. The students will feel insecure, keeping in view the previous record of the former warden, and will affect them both emotionally and academically,” argued the female students.
The students argued that the environment of the Girls’ Hostel had significantly improved with the change of warden. They said the quality of messing, cleanliness, facilities, security and attitude of the new warden made them feel comfortable and relaxed due to the changed environment. “We can now concentrate on our main objective, our studies. Besides her official duties, the new warden is providing us with basic medical facilities as she is a doctor, whereas previously we had to go to hospital on our own in case of having a health problem,” said the application.
“The chief provost KMC, dean KMC, chairman BoG (MTI-ICMC/KTH/KCI) and the secretary health will be responsible for any untoward incident (law and order situation), as we all, the resident students of KMC, Girls Hostel, are not ready to tolerate the cruel and inhumane attitude of the former warden again,” the application stated.
