ISLAMABAD: National Economic Council (NEC) has approved construction of 100 stadiums with the whopping amount of Rs25 billion. The cost will be shared equally by the central government and the provinces, ‘The News’ has learnt.
The NEC headed by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi gave the go-ahead for the construction of stadiums, approving Rs12.5 billion that is to be borne by the centre. It is not clear yet which sports these stadiums will cater the needs of.
The NEC also approved the release of Rs1 billion during the current fiscal year for the project. The NEC approved the replacement of Bunda Ground’s artificial turf. The project will cost Rs150 million with the entire amount to be released this year.
A football ground will be developed in Chaman at a cost of Rs25 million. A scheme with the name of Promotion of Sports and Regaining Pride will also be initiated this year. The NEC approved Rs100 million for the project. This year, Rs30 million will be released.
The NEC has also given go-ahead to the renovation and up-gradation of Pakistan Sports Complex facilities at a cost of Rs500 million out of which Rs100 million will be released in the coming fiscal year.
