ATHENS: AEK Athens ended Olympiakos’s run of seven consecutive Greek titles when they captured their 12th championship, 24 years after their last triumph, with a 2-0 win over Levadiakos on Sunday.
With 66 points, AEK are eight points ahead of second-placed PAOK with just two games left. Greek football has been plagued by controversy all season with fan violence, player strikes, a three-week league suspension as well as the bizarre sight of Ivan Savvidis, the president of PAOK, walking onto the pitch carrying a firearm, amongst the numerous low points.
