200-kg dead animal meat confiscated

OKARA: A butcher was arrested while another escaped after 200-kg rotten and dead animal meat was recovered here on Sunday.

On a tip-off, city slaughter house in-charge Awais Ali and the police raided a site near village 5/4L in city suburbs and checked a vehicle, transporting rotten meat to the city. Nomair was nabbed whereas his accomplice Allah Ditta managed to escape from the scene. Sadr Okara police had registered a case under the Slaughter Act.

POISONOUS MILK DETERIORATES CONDITION OF FIVE PERSONS: The condition of five persons of a family was deteriorated when they consumed poisonous milk near Bhatianwala Pul, Depalpur.

Wazir Ali and his family members, including Ali Sher, Meraj Bibi, Fatima, 9, and Amna drank milk on Sunday but their condition started deteriorating soon after that. Rescue-1122 rushed them to the hospital.

POTATO EXPORT GIVES RS700M FOREIGN EXCHANGE TO PAKISTAN: Pakistan has received foreign exchange worth 700 million rupees following an agreement with Russian regarding potato sale.

It was disclosed by Dr Khalid Zafar, in-charge Entomologist Plant Protection. He was talking to Chaudhry Maqsood Ahmed, patron Potato Growers Society Okara and others here on Sunday.

The Potato Growers Society has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Secretary Agriculture Fazal Abbas Mekan, Director General Plant Protection Dr Syed Wasimul Hassan, Deputy Director Headquarters Karachi Sohail Shahzad, Deputy Director Headquarters Karachi Allah Ditta Abid, Imtiaz Ahmed, in-charge regional office Lahore and others for establishing a camp at Okara for resolving the problems of potato growers. These growers had ensured the export of 25,000 matric ton potato to Russia within two months. Further export was in the pipeline, after excellent grading of potato.

Talking to media men, Dr Khalid Zafar said the conditions of Russia on purchase of Pakistani potato were very strict and still 635 potato containers had yet to be passed by the Russian authorities.
