JHANG: The Pakistan Kisan Ittehad district chapter will block the city and stage sit-ins in front of a local sugar mill and the DCO Office on March 30 to press the government to ensure their sugarcane crop outstanding payments by the millers.
It was informed by Pakistan Kisan Ittehad district president Amir Naoul and tehsil president Abuzar Bharwana while addressing a press conference here on Saturday. They said that they would take out a rally to protest against the attitude of the district administration and the mill management. They said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had announced that growers would be paid within 72 hours during his visit to the district during flood but they were not paid despite passing of one year. They said that DCO Nadir Chattha was informed that if the miller would not clear the growers’ payments till March 30, the mill management and the district administration would be responsible if any law and order situation creates in the district. They also announced that a large number of growers and farmers of the district would attend a rally at Nasir Bagh, Lahore, on March 25. They demanded the government give subsidy on agricultural sector besides withdrawing 17 per cent general sales tax (GST) imposed on agricultural inputs.
