TIMERGARA: A professor in Timergara, Lower Dir, was deprived of Rs150,000 cash in his bank account by unknown people impersonating as officials of the armed forces.
Ikramullah, the assistant professor political science at Government Postgraduate College Timergara, told The News on Friday that he received a phone call on his cell number 0345 951 1489 from unknown impersonators seeking his personal details including CNIC number and bank account on pretext of census verification, which he provided to the impersonators.
“The impersonator called me and introduced himself as Major Aqib calling from GHQ Rawalpindi, saying they required my personal data in connection with verification of census data provided to them by officials of Pak army,” Ikramullah said, adding that when he asked the person how he should accept that he had been called by officials from GHQ as they were calling from a cell phone, they at once disconnected the phone call and made another call from a landline number number 05192000000, after which he had no option but to provide his personal data. “I strongly appeal army chief general Qamar Javed Bajwa and Director General ISPR Maj General Asif Ghafoor to take notice of the matter and immediately arrest those maligning the army’s image and to help ensure safety of public interests,” he added.
