Karachi prevail in Sindh Games

KARACHI: Karachi prevailed over their rivals in various disciplines, particularly in big event of athletics, on the second day of the 17th Sindh Games being held here at different venues on Friday.

Till filing of the report Karachi were leading the medal chart with 17 gold, ten silver and seven bronze.They were followed by Hyderabad with two gold, six silver and five bronze. Sukkur had claimed one silver and six bronze. In athletics, which was poorly organized here at the PSB Coaching Centre, both male and female athletes of Karachi showed great resolve under the simmering heat to gift medals to their region. There was no water, no medical assistance and the main organisers were found absent at the venue. The athletics event also witnessed a protest from Mirpurkhas over an alleged biased decision against them in the 4x400m women relay. According to Mirpurkhas officials their side was clearly at the second place but they were denied of their deserving spot by the conductor of the event. They and Larkana were then declared joint second-placed sides in the event.

Meanwhile Mirpurkhas’ athlete Narmina missed a 200m heat because the organisers held the same event half an hour before the actual time which had already been circulated to the concerned six divisions of the competitions. As per details Karachi’s top sprinter Moeed Baloch, as expected, lifted the 200m gold with a time of 21. 84. Karachi’s Usama Sultan finished with the silver by clocking 22.69 and Faizan of Sukkur ended third with 23. 72. The men’s javelin throw gold also went to Karachi’s Sajawal Khan who recorded a throw of 50.34m. Karachi’s Shakeel Ahmed with 49.26m claimed silver while Khalid Mehmood of Sukkur with a 49.06m effort ended with a bronze.

In the men’s 10,000m race Mohammad Amjad of Karachi got gold with a timing of 39:01.07. Karachi’s Arbab Tanoli claimed silver with 39.16 and Mohibullah of Sukkur snared bronze with a timing of 39.46.

Ali Shan of Karachi clinched the men’s 400m gold with a timing of 52.36. Mohsin of Karachi snared silver with 52.37 effort and Hyderabad’s Qahhar picked bronze with 52.71. The triple jump gold went to Shakeel of Karachi while Hamza of Hyderabad and Amir Hayat of Karachi claimed silver and bronze medal respectively. In high jump Mirza Rizwan of Karachi claimed gold with a 1.70m, Awais of Karachi finished with a silver with 1.65 and Kashif of Larkana ended with a bronze with 1.60.

Meanwhile the women’s 3000m race gold went to Karachi’s Sehrish with a timing of 13.14, Ayesha of Karachi got silver with 13.22 and Narmina Ali of Mirpurkhas claimed bronze with 15.22.

The women’s 400m gold was claimed by Esha Iffan of Karachi with a timing of 1:07.83, Marzia Rasheed of Karachi got silver with 1:11.56 and Kiran of Hyderabad got bronze with 1:22.06. Fatima Sana of Karachi claimed long jump gold, Erum of Mirpurkhas clinched silver while Kulsoom of Sukkur snared bronze.
