MMA meeting remains inconclusive over KP chapter offices
PESHAWAR: The leaders of the recently revived Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Wednesday failed to elect the provincial office-bearers for the religio-political alliance as two of the major component parties were interested in keeping the key offices.
The day-long consultative meeting of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Jamaat-e-Islami and other components of the MMA was held here at the provincial secretariat of JUI-F in Peshawar.
Besides the provincial leadership of the religious parties, central general secretary of the MMA Liaqat Baloch, JUI-F central general secretary Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, JI provincial chief Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and JUI-F provincial head Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan also attended the meeting.
The print and electronic media was invited for press briefing at 3 pm at the JUI-F Secretariat in Peshawar but till 5 pm the meeting could not reach a final decision regarding the president and general secretary of the MMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter. According to the inside sources, the JI was interested in getting its provincial head Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan elected as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president of the MMA. The JUI-F, on the other hand, was insisting on Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan becoming the MMA provincial president.
