Ghani Glass, Brighto Paints victorious in Patron’s Trophy

LAHORE: Ghani Glass and Brighto paints won their respective pool D matches of the opening round of Patron’s Trophy Grade II Tournament here on Thursday.

At Railway Stadium, Ghani Glass won against HEC by 10 wickets. Having scored 400 runs in first innings, they bowled out HEC twice, firstly for 227 and later after following on for 178 in second innings. They finally achieved the target of six runs to win the match.

Scores: Ghani Glass first innings) 400-9 in 83 overs and 2nd innings 6-0. HEC first innings 227 in 53.4 overs and after fellow-on 2nd innings 178-in 49.5 overs (Maaz Tamia 52, Arsalan Zia 44, Subhan Khan 30, Shahzar Hasan 22, 3 Husnain Bukhari 4-33, Ulfat Shah 3-18, Ali Usman 3-59). Result: Ghani Glass won by 10 wickets

At the LCCA ground Railways caved in to Brighto Paints by just six runs. Scores: Brighto Paints first innings 191 and 2nd innings 238 in 63.4 overs (Ashfaq Ahmed 76, Wahab Dar 57, Abdul Samad 38, Akbar Badshah 23, Shahid Nawaz 5-59, Qaiser Ashraf 3-45, Manzoor Khan 2-68).

Railways first innings 243 in 73.3 overs and 2nd innings 180 in 57.2 overs (Zainul-Husnain 62, Akhlaq Butt 27, Ameer Hamza 20, Muhammad Ramiz 4-38, Agha Salman 3-34, Waqas Ahmed 3-53).Result: Brighto Paints won by 6 runs.

Our Islamabad correspondent adds: ZTBL inflicted an innings and 46-run defeat on PIA in the opening round match of the Patron’s Trophy Grade II Championship at the Diamond Ground Thursday.

After being forced to follow on, PIA were again dismissed cheaply. PIA could manage 127 runs in the second leaving ZTBL victorious by an innings and 46 runs. Hamza Nadeem (6-37) and Muhammad Ali (3-51) ran through PIA second innings with Shahryar Ghani (55) and Shoaib Khan (33) being the only notable run-getters for PIA in the second innings.ZTBL hit up 321 in the only innings they played while PIA replied with 148 and 127.

Scores: ZTBL first innings 321 in 82.5 overs.PIA first innings 148 in 53.3 overs (Anwar Ali Khan 56, Hamza Nadeem 3-45, Usman Ashraf 2-8 Bilawal Iqbal 2-38, Muhammad Ali 2-47) after fellow-on second innings 127 in 44 overs (Shahryar Ghani 55, Shoaib Khan 33, Hamza Nadeem 6-37, Muhammad Ali 3-51). Result: ZTBL won by an innings & 46 runs

Scores of other matches: At Army Cricket Ground Rawalpindi: CDA 1st innings 152 in 31.3 overs and 2nd innings 267 in 66.2 overs (Naved Malik 123, Ali Sarfraz 50, Umair Khan 5-56, Muzaffar Iqbal 2-37, Shoaib Aamir 2-71). Army 1st innings 169 in 49.3 overs (Muhammad Atif 49, Faisal Iqbal 7-34) and 2nd innings 217 in 84 overs (Muhammad Nafees 66, Muhammad Atif 46, Faisal Iqbal 4-49, Kashif Ali 3-35).Result: CDA won by 42 runs

At Pindi Stadium Rawalpindi: OGDCL 1st innings 470-3 decl in 82.2 overs and 2nd innings 23-0 in 2.4 overs. Pak Saudi ist innings 201 in 49.3 overs and after fellow-on 2nd innings 291 in 93.5 overs: (Imtiaz Aslam 53, Muhammad Waqar 52, Shahzad Azam Rana 4-37, Sajid Rehman 2-61). Result: OGDCL won by 10 wickets.

Our Karachi correspondent adds: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Port Qasim Authority (PQA) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) were among those who registered impressive wins in their respective groups on the third and final day of their first round Patron’s Trophy Grade-II matches on Thursday.

In Group A outing here at the SBP Ground, SBP overwhelmed Haideri Traders by eight wickets. SBP chased a 144-run target in the 75th over after losing two wickets in the process. Umar Waheed played a match-winning knock of 91 not out, having smashed 17 fours.

After conceding a 29-run lead, Haideri Traders resumed their second innings at 95-4 and perished for 172 in the 60th over. Mir Wais Khan emerged as leading scorer with 97-ball 65 which contained nine fours. Left-arm pacer Taj Wali bowled impressively as he picked 5-62. Haideri Traders posted 180 in their first innings. In response, SBP staged 209 all out. In Group B meeting at Jinnah Stadium Sialkot, PQA, a former first-class side, also defeated Candyland by eight wickets. After being forced to follow-on, Candyland were folded for 311 in their second innings to set a 67-run target for the oppositions who achieved it in the 16th over for the loss of only two wickets.

Adil Akram hit 104 for Candyland, smashing 19 fours from 176 balls. Bilal Baig chipped in with 52 and Adnan Haroon belted 49. M Waqar got 4-48 while discarded international Mohammad Talha claimed 2-96, for an impressive match-haul of 9-134. PQA declared their first innings at 347-9 while Candyland were skittled out for 102, in response.

In other Group B game at Rana Naved Cricket Academy Ground Sheikhupura, KPT crushed Ahmed Glass by an innings and 14 runs. After being forced to follow-on, Ahmed Glass perished for 218 in their second innings after resuming from their overnight score of 174-6. Waqas Ali hit 46-ball 50 with eight fours. Safeer Azam belted 38. Fast bowler Adeel Malik was the real hero for KPT as he produced figures of 5-64, for excellent match-tally of 11-113. KPT posted 344-8 in their first innings. Ahmed Glass were folded, in response, for only 112.

In Group A clash here at NBP Sports Complex, Navy prevailed over Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) by 44 runs. Chasing a fighting total of 219, CAA were bowled out for 174 in their second innings. Haris Khanzada, who had hit 100 in their first innings, smashed a solid 59 off 92 balls which carried eight fours. Spinner Raza Hasan got 5-71, for a match-haul of 8-180.

After having gained a 28-run lead, Navy resumed their second innings at 122-4 and were bundled out for 190. Waseem Ahmed blasted 56 off 103 balls. He also hit four fours. Hamza Ghanchi made 35. Mohammad Usman Usmani got 3-63, for a match-tally of 5-106. Navy had earlier posted 268 in their first innings. In response CAA had accumulated 240.
