ISLAMABAD: Japan has provided $27.3 million assistance to Pakistan for improvement of airport security (phase-2) in different cities and for procurement of metrological equipment under economic and social development programme.
Through the second phase project for providing security at airports including New Islamabad International Airport, Japan will provide Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) with security equipment for screening of check-in baggage, hand baggage and vehicles at Karachi, Faisalabad, Multan and the New Islamabad International Airports. Under the phase-1, Japan had already provided security equipment for Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad airports.
According to announcement made here on Tuesday, Japan has extended grant assistance to Pakistan, namely “the Economic and Social Development Programme” worth 500 million Japanese Yen ($4.7 million approx)), and “the Project for Improvement of Airport Security (Phase 2)” worth 2.392 billion Japanese yen ($22.5 million approx).
The signing for the projects took place between Mr. Takashi Harada, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan and Syed Ghazanfar Abbas Jilani, the Secretary of Economic Affairs Division (EAD) here on Tuesday.
