Rickshaw drivers rally against price hike

LAHORE: Awami Rickshaw Union held a rally against rising prices, inflation and decreasing value of rupee in the country.

Thousands of rickshaw drivers participated in the rally here on Sunday. Youngsters on bikes, rickshaws and other vehicles reached Expo Center. Majeed Ghauri led the rally and addressed them and announced Awami Pasban Party (APP) on the occasion.

Not a single party tried to solve the problems of people. They grabbed resources of the masses and delivered nothing, Ghauri said and added political parties’ purpose was only to rule in the country. They did not work for the welfare of common people.

After coming to power, we will deliver everything according to the needs of people. The ruling elite don’t know the real issues of people, he said. LDA plots auction on 29th: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced auctioning three plots for high-rise buildings, situated opposite Lahore Expo Centre along southern Bypass Road, near Lahore Canal in Finance and Trade Centre, Johar Town.

The auction will be held on March 29 (Thursday) at LDA Community Centre, New Muslim Town. A total of 39 plots, including three plots for educational institutions and one for a petrol pump, will be auctioned on the occasion, besides commercial and residential plots in different localities of the city.

For ensuring transparency, LDA has constituted an auction committee for supervising the bidding event, including Director Finance, Director Estate Management One, Director Estate Management Quaid-e-Azam Town, Director Land Development One and Two, Director Town Planning and the directors concerned.

The bid starting prices of the plots were fixed by the price assessment committee of LDA in the light of recommendations of property evaluators approved by the Pakistan Bankers Association.

LDA has offered for auction commercial plots in civic centres of Sabzazar, Jubilee Town, Johar Town and New Muslim Town. The governing body of LDA in its recently held meeting had approved changes in the scheme plan of Jubilee Town in order to rejuvenate the revenue potential of Civic Centre of the scheme in view of a proposed new structure plan road, to be constructed parallel to the Lahore Canal Road, passing through Jubilee Town.

A petrol pump site to be auctioned on the occasion in block D-II of Johar Town while the three education sites were located in Mustafa Town, Punjab University Employees Housing Scheme Phase II along Abdus Sattar Edhi Road and IEP Engineers Town along Defence Road.

Egyptian scholar: A delegation of Majlis-e-Ulema Council led by Khateeb Badshahi Masjid Abdul Khabeer Azad called on Egyptian religious scholar Ibrahim Alam at a local hotel on Sunday.

According to a press release, the delegation which called on the religious scholar from Egypt included Allama Niaz Hussain Naqvi, Sahibzada Syed Abdul Baseer Azad, Syed Abdul Kabeer Azad, Sahibzada Syed Abdul Razzaq and others.

Syed Abdul Khabeer Azad on the occasion welcomed Ibrahim Alam and his adviser Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Yaqub in Pakistan and stated this tour would further help boost mutual ties between the two nations.

Khabeer Azad lauded the services of Jamiat-ul-Azhar, a renowned institution of Egypt. The Egyptian scholar on the occasion hailed the services of Abdul Khabeer Azad for promoting intra-faith harmony.
