Shami offered Grade B contract as inquiry ends
NEW DELHI: Mohammed Shami has been handed a Grade B annual contract by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) after investigation by BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) revealed no wrongdoing on the fast bowlers’ part.
Shami’s annual contract was withheld when the list of centrally-contracted players was revealed on March 10 owing to reports of domestic trouble. Shami’s wife, Hasin Jahan, had accused the India cricketer of having extra-marital affairs and resorting to domestic violence. While filing a complaint with the Kolkata police, she also insisted that that Shami had made claims to her that he collected money from a British national, Mohammed bhai, sent through a Pakistani woman.
Subsequently, the CoA had requested Mr Neeraj Kumar, former Police Commissioner of Delhi and Head of BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit, to investigate the allegations against Shami pertain to the provisions of the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code. “Neeraj Kumar has submitted his confidential report to the CoA. Based on the conclusions in the said report, the CoA is of the view that no further actions/ proceedings under the BCCI anti-corruption code are warranted in the matter,” stated the BCCI release on Thursday.
