National Amateur Golf from March 29

PESHAWAR: The 57th National Amateur Ranking Golf Championship will be held here at the lush green Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Golf Course from March 29.

Talking to the press on Wednesday, Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) joint secretary Dr Ali Haider said that it is the biggest event of the PGF’s annual calendar where leading amateur golfers of the country would participate.

He said the event has a bunch of three national ranking championships for the ladies amateur for over 54-holes HCP 24 and below, senior amateur over 54-holes over HCP 12 and below.He said a national team would be selected after the event, which would represent Pakistan in the Asian Golf Championship to be played in Japan.

He said efforts are being made to bring international golfers to Peshawar.Flanked by international golfer Major Arshad Mehmood, PGF executive committee member, KP Golf Association secretary Lt Col Imtinan Qazmi and national golfer Akbar Qayyum Bukhari, Dr Ali Haider thanked PGF President Lt Gen Hilal for organising the prestigious event in Peshawar.

He said as many as 220 golfers would compete in the championship, adding the event consisted of three categories — inter-provincial team, seniors and ladies amateur.A total of 120 amateur golfers would compete in the main event, 75 in seniors and 35 in the ladies contest, he concluded.The championship is being organised in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after a long gap of 25 years.
