Extortionists arrested in New Karachi on citizen’s complaint
A gang of extortionists was arrested from New Karachi on Tuesday after a citizen complained to the paramilitary Rangers force. According to a spokesperson, on March 17, Basheer Ahmed, a resident of New Karachi Division complained that he had received an extortion slip from some suspects.
Ahmed said the men threatened to kidnap and murder his 6-year-old daughter as well as to kidnap his wife if he does not give them Rs100,000. The Rangers operational and intelligence team began working on the complaint. During the investigation, they raided Sector 11-G in the locality and arrested Mohammad Asif, who had come to collect the extortion money.
During interrogation, he confessed to sending the extortion threat to Ahmed and added that he was planning to send more such slips to other residents of New Karachi. He also named his associate Mohammad Salman, who was later arrested from Sector 11-G. Both suspects were later handed over to the local police for further legal proceedings.
20 more arrested
Twenty other suspects were also arrested by the Rangers in raids across the city. Imran Ali alias Sahad was arrested from Awami Colony. He is an activist of the Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqqiqi and is said to be involved in drug peddling.
Rangers also arrested Safeer Ahmed from Baldia Town. The spokesperson said Safeer was associated with the Lyari Gang War and involved in extortion, street crime and robberies. Four extortionists were also held from Gulshan-e-Maymar and Korangi and were identified as Adam, Shakir, Aurangzeb and Mehmood Khan alias Lal Khan.
Five suspects involved in dacoities and street crimes were arrested from Madina Colony, Saudabad, Clifton and FB Area. They were identified as Jehanzeb alias Jambo, Kashif alias Puncture, Syed Kameel Abbas Zaidi, Zeewar Khan and Zaheer Hassan.
Meanwhile, in raids in Clifton, Surjani, FB Area, Gulsan-e-Maymar, Saudabad and Memom Goth, the paramilitary force arrested eight suspects identified as Abdullah alias Polo, Stephen Masih, Owais, Nawaz, Hamal, Abdul Razzaq, Ali Mohammed and Nabi Bux. They were said be operating drug dens from their respective areas.
Moreover, another suspect, Mohammed Zubair, was arrested from Tipu Sultan area, who is involved in a number of land grabbing cases.
