It is good to see that members of other political parties such as the PPP and the PTI are also being held accountable rather than just the PML-N. For the first time, on March 6, 2018, the National Accountability Bureau took action against two important leaders of the PTI’s, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa government. The leaders include KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Zulfiqar Bukhari, a close aide to the PTI chairman and a senior official of the KP government. Both the men have been accused of leasing out vast tracts of land to an international firm, owning offshore firms revealed in the Panama Papers and allowing Imran Khan to use the provincial government’s helicopter.
NAB must be very careful and must ensure that no one is subjected to political victimisation. Only going after the Sharif family and the PML-N will only serve to discredit the accountability movement and will not favour the anti-PML-N camp instead will only increase their popularity among the people.
