The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) arrested four robbers of a gang on Monday, who had been robbing women of their valuables in various parts of the city for the past four years.
The men — identified as Abdus Sattar, Ishaq, Tahir and Nadeem — were arrested with weapons in a raid conducted by an SUI team, said Senior Superintendent of Police Tariq Razzak Dharejo.
In their statements during the initial interrogation, the four admitted that they had deprived innumerable women of their cash, mobile phones and other valuable in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Tariq Road and Paposh Nagar.
They said they had devised a standard operation procedure (SOP), according to which, they would only rob women. The suspects told the police that as per their SOP, they robbed women till 4pm, and did not carry out their criminal activities on Thursdays and Fridays. SSP Dharejo said that a jeweller was part of the four-member gang and his task was to tell original gold articles from fake ones.
Wife murderer held
A man who burnt his wife to death over domestic issues was arrested. Station House Officer Mohammad Sarwar of the Landhi police station said a patrolling team arrested Dil Ahmed, son of Qasim, and found an illegal weapon on him after receiving a tip-off. When police checked his criminal record, they learnt that he was also wanted in the murder case of his wife.
The SHO said the suspect had burned his wife, Memona Khatoon, to death in 2014, and an FIR was lodged against him under Section 302. Ahmed admitted that he had set his wife on fire over domestic issues.
Head Moharir ASI Muhammad Asghar told The News that the suspect had contracted three marriages, and Memona had forced him to divorce the other two.
The accused was declared a police offender when he failed to appear before court for the trial.
Two hurt by muggers: Two more citizens fell victim to the gunshots of muggers on Monday and were left injured after they resisted robbery attempts. Three armed men intercepted Muneer Ahmed in Shah Lateef Town ascaped with his cell phone and cashafter shooting him in the foot, while Zulfiqar, 25, was shot and injured by armed muggers in Sohrab Goth after he showed resistance.
