Sindh win 10 gold medals in swimming

KARACHI: Sindh did a fine job in swimming by winning ten gold and eight silver medals on the second day of the Fourth Inter-Provincial Games being held at the Qayyum Sports Complex, Peshawar, on Monday.

Sindh won gold medals in 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200m IM, 4X100m freestyle relay and 4X200m freestyle relay.

Balochistan won two silver and four bronze medals; Punjab got three bronze medals and KP three bronze. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa swept the bodybuilding event held under open sky at the PSB Sports Arena, by claiming gold medals in all nine weights.

Sindh got two silver medals. In the 55kg Wali Muhammad of KP won gold, Rehan of Sindh snared silver and Muhammad Rafique got bronze. In 60kg, Sami UIlah of KP won gold, Muzamil Ali of Sindh captured silver and Muhammad Asad of Balochistan got bronze.

In 65kg, Zain Ul Abideen claimed gold, Noor Muhammad of Islamabad claimed silver and Hassan of Punjab grabbed bronze. In 70kg, Shaharyar of KP won gold, while Amir Hamza of Punjab and Inzimam-ul-Haq of Islamabad secured silver and bronze medals, respectively. In 75kg, Junaid Khan of KP won gold, Muhammad Amir of Punjab clinched silver and Waqar of Islamabad secured bronze.

In 80kg, Qazi Haseeb of KP won gold, Shamruz Asghar of Punjab got silver and Zubair Ahmad snared bronze. In 85kg, Momin of KP won gold, followed by Asghar Ali of Punjab and Noor Ahmad of FATA with silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In 90kg, Muhammad Akhtar won gold, Saeed Ahmad of Balochistan claimed silver and Shafi Ullah of FATA got bronze. In 90+kg, Muhammad Ishfaq won gold, while Kashan Malik of Punjab and Muhammad Saddique claimed silver and bronze, respectively.

In women squash, Pakistan Under-19 No 1 Komal Khan of KP claimed gold medal as she defeated Punjab’s Aiman Shahbaz in the final 3-1. Komal, Laiba Ijaz and Nimra Aqeel of KP won the team gold by defeating Punjab 2-1.

In volleyball, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab qualified for the final. KP defeated AJK in the first semi-final 25-15, 25-18, 25-12. Punjab ousted FATA 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 in the other semi-final. The final and third position matches will be played on Tuesday (today).

In the tug-of-war final, Punjab defeated KP 2-0. Punjab had earlier whacked AJK in the semi-final. KP had outclassed FATA in the second semi-final. In table tennis, KP defeated Punjab 3-0. KP’s Basit Ali outgunned Subhan of Punjab 3-0, Shah Khan of KP beat Abid of Punjab 3-0, and Shahyan of KP got the better of Sajid of Punjab 3-2.

In wrestling, Punjab with four gold and three silver medals got the first position; KP with two gold and three silver ended second; and Islamabad finished third with one gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

In hockey, KP beat Balochistan 5-1 to qualify for the final. In kabaddi, Punjab beat KP in the semifinal and Sindh beat Balochistan in the other semi-final. Punjab dominated the first day in weightlifting competitions by picking four gold medals as competitions in four weights were held.

In 56kg, Sharjeel Butt of Punjab claimed gold, while Ali Ahmed of Sindh and Nouman Gul of KP claimed silver and bronze medals, respectively.The 62kg gold went to Punjab’s Abdul Hanan, while Hashir Zaman of Balochistan and Aashan of KP got silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In 62kg, Asjad Jamil of Punjab got gold, Usman Baloch of Islamabad claimed silver and Mohammad Zubair of Balochistan snared bronze. The 77kg gold went to Arsalaan Hanif of Punjab, while Safiullah and Shafiat Gulzar of Balochistan captured silver and bronze medals, respectively.
