Islamabad: Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) Islamabad Chapter President Dr Shehzad Ashraf Chaudhry has asked President Mamnoon Hussain who is also the chancellor of International Islamic University to constitute a fair, transparent and competent enquiry committee headed by not less than a sitting Judge of High court to investigate the illegal award of degree to son of IIU President Dr Ahmed Yousaf al-Darweish.

He was commenting on the news that the enquiry committee so constituted comprises Dr Darweish’s subordinates including the persons who otherwise should have been summoned to explain their position as being the main players in the process of awarding the degree to Abdul Majeed, son of Dr Darweish, in complete violation of rules of the university.

He said the university is passing through the most turbulent time of its history while its reputation stands badly damaged due to mismanagement and mishandling of administrative and academic affairs in the past many years. He feared more damage if the situation continues to persist.

The FAPUASA official said that the committee consisting of subordinates of the father of the accused might get influenced in the process of investigation. He observed that it would be a disaster for a university of international stature.
