Governor links speedy justice to respecting each other’s rights

GUJRANWALA: Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana has said that lawyers have a vital role in guiding the general public about the constitution and law.

He said this while addressing the District Bar Association members here on Saturday. Federal Minister for Law Mehmood Bashir Virk, DBA president Noor Muhammad Mirza, general secretary Zaheer Ahmed Cheema, Additional Sessions Judge Syed Anjum Raza, MPA Taufiq Butt and others were also present. The Punjab governor said that he was proud to be a lawyer and his identity was a black coat. He said that provision of speedy justice was not possible without tolerance and respecting each other’s rights. He said that black coat demands honesty, dignity and hard work. He urged the lawyers to pay due respect to their seniors. Earlier, the governor also attended the annual convocation of a private university and said that education was the best way to get regard in the world. We had all kinds of natural sources in our country so it was the responsibility of new generation to get higher education and used their skills for prosperity of the country, he added. HEC Chairman Dr Nizamuddin, the varsity’s chairman Muhammad Anwar Dar and others were also present.

ACCUSED DIES OF CARDIAC ARREST AT POLICE STATION: An accused, who was arrested under robbery charges, died at Model Town police station on Saturday.

According to the police, Shahbaz was involved in dozen of robbery incidents. The police claimed during investigation, he suddenly fell and fainted. He was rushed to the DHQ Hospital but he died, the police added.

MAN POISONED TO DEATH BY IN-LAWS: A man was allegedly poisoned to death by his in-laws here on Saturday. Iqbal’s wife quarreled with her husband and went to her parents’ home.

On the day of the incident, Iqbal went to his in-laws house to get back his wife. However, his in-laws allegedly poisoned him to death. Later, relatives of Iqbal staged a demonstration against the incident by placing the body on road and alleged that Jinnah Road police were not taking action against the accused persons.
