WANA: A public call office (PCO) has been established exclusively for women in Makin area of South Waziristan, an official said.

An official said they have set up the PCO for women to facilitate them to speak to their family members abroad or in other parts of the country.

He said that the PCO has been set up because women do not have calling facility while there is no mobile phone facility in the area.

“A local lady would be given the PCO and she will run it and earn the money from it, but this would be a facility for women only. Most women have to call their relatives or husband in other countries or parts of Pakistan,” he added.

He said that initiation of mobile phone service would take time but at least the army set up the PCO close to residential area and away from army installations. “The PCO is properly covered so that women can use it as per their traditions of Purdah,” he added.
